HEMS Chief Pilot at Yorkshire Air Ambulance
Job descriptionThe Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) is an independent charity providing two rapid response helicopters across the Yorkshire region, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. Due to scheduled retirements we are seeking to recruit a well-motivated individual capable of supporting the Director of Aviation and managing a small team of aviation professionals to deliver a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service in association with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
You will possess either an ATPL(H) or CPL(H) with Instrument Rating, and at least 1500 Pilot-in-Command hours on aircraft, of which 500 will be in helicopters gained VMC overland with significant low flying experience, and 40 hours PIC at night. As a rostered pilot, you will be commanding an Airbus H145 and responsible for key decisions while operating within a challenging environment. Additionally, you will have gained both previous HEMS and managerial experience, and be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of aviation legislation and evidence to produce administrative documents.
Type Rating not essential and will be provided for the right candidate. You will be expected to reside within the Yorkshire region or make plans to relocate.
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: Full-time rostered, with defined administrative days
Salary & Package: £67k to £72k plus bonus, depending on skills and experience, and additional benefits package.

They operate 365 days per year with two new Airbus H145 helicopters. One based at Nostell, near Wakefield in West Yorkshire and the second at RAF Topcliffe near Thirsk in North Yorkshire. The Consultants and Paramedics which fly as part of the crew are supplied by Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
